ALEX SHAUGER

Alex is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Alex earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree from Rutgers University where she double majored in Psychology and Criminal Justice. She went on to earn her Master’s in Social Work with a certification in Violence Against Women in Children from Rutgers. Alex was born in Texas and has most recently put her roots down in a DFW suburb. She’s thrilled to be working for Elko Counseling Center as a remote therapist.

Alex has a plethora of experience, which has enabled her to feel confident and knowledgeable in working with clients struggling with a variety of issues. Alex has previously worked in the nonprofit sector. Some of her experience includes being a therapist at Edna Mahan Women’s Maximum Correctional Facility. She facilitated domestic violence groups and helped to lead the “Thinking for a Change” program. Alex also ran the Youth Offender Diversion Alternative (YODA) Program through Tarrant County Domestic Violence Court under Judge Jamie Cummings for 5+ years. She provided counseling and social services to first time offenders in exchange for a dismissal of all charges upon completion. In both of these opportunities, Alex provided support to patients and families struggling in life. She worked with those who had experienced trauma, substance abuse, anxiety related disorders, personality disorders, and mood disorders. Alex implements evidenced based treatment approaches to include, but not limited to: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

Alex has worked with adults, couples, and families to provide a supportive environment where real change can be made and maintained even after therapy has been completed.
She works very hard with her clients to get lasting results. Alex truly loves what she does. She cares about helping others find happiness and a motivation to be content with their lives. She is eager to hit the ground running with her clients. Alex believes with a good therapeutic relationship, motivation, and realistic goals, clients can make changes they want so they can enjoy their daily lives.

When Alex is not working, she enjoys spending time with her two kiddos and husband. They love to go to Disney World and be outside breathing in the fresh air.
