LEIGH BARNETT

Leigh is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from The University of Mississippi. She grew up in central Mississippi, but has lived in Dallas since she completed her Master’s Degree.

Leigh has been in practice since 2012, previously working in psychiatric hospitals, community non profit clinics, and other private practices in Dallas. Leigh has gained a plethora of experience in working with those suffering from persistent mental illnesses. While working for Terrell State Hospital and Metrocare Services, she managed an Outpatient Program for those suffering from mental illness and substance abuse as well as a DBT Program for those suffering from personality disorders and mood disorders.

Leigh has significant experience working with adults, teens, couples, and families. She also has experience working with the LGBTQ community, seeing individuals and couples. She specializes in treating depression, anxiety disorders to include PTSD, OCD, social anxiety and phobias, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Personality Disorders to include Borderline and Narcistic, gender/identity, suicidal ideation, self-harm, self-esteem, family issues, couples, substance abuse, and trauma related disorders. Leigh is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is utilized to treat anxiety-based disorders including PTSD, emotional/sexual trauma, and negative beliefs about oneself. Leigh is very straight-forward with clients while offering compassion and honesty. She believes trust, motivation, and communication are key to a successful counseling experience. She is very goal-oriented and eager to make progress with her clients.
