Rebekah Poynor, LPC, ATR
Therapist in Dallas Offering Virtual Therapy Throughout Texas
I’m Rebekah Poynor, LPC, ATR, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Art Therapist with over ten years of experience working in nonprofit settings, addiction treatment centers, and private practice. As a therapist in Dallas, I provide virtual therapy to adults throughout Texas.
I work primarily with adults navigating anxiety, depression, shame, grief, and trauma. My training includes Art Therapy and Somatic Experiencing, and I integrate nervous system awareness, creativity, and attachment theory into our work together.
Many of the clients I support feel disconnected from their emotions, stuck in patterns of self-criticism, or overwhelmed by life transitions. Therapy offers a steady space to slow down, build awareness, and move toward meaningful change.
My approach is grounded, relational, and gently direct. I believe healing happens when you feel both safe and supported while also being invited into honest reflection and growth. I often incorporate art-making, body-based awareness, and traditional talk therapy, depending on what feels most helpful for you. You do not need to consider yourself creative to benefit from art therapy. Curiosity is more important than skill.
I was drawn to becoming an art therapist because I have long been interested in how people make meaning of their experiences, especially during times of loss, uncertainty, or transition. In my own experience of pain, I found that imagery sometimes expressed what words could not.
Outside of my work as a therapist in Dallas, I enjoy spending time in nature, creating art, and exploring new places. I have lived in Austria and India, and those experiences deepened my understanding of culture, resilience, and the human experience.
